Trace Railcars on Anacostia Railroads

In order to trace cars on an Anacostia railroad, you must have a web browser (ie., Internet Explorer), Internet access (ie., dial-up, dsl, ISDN, T1), and a valid car initial and number. You also must register to get a userid and password.

To find out how to register for this free service, click here.

Once you are registered, you can click here, or click on the Trace Cars link on any Anacostia railroad customer service page to get to a log-in screen.

To trace cars, follow these steps:

  1. Enter your unique user ID

  2. Enter your unique password

  3. Click on the Login button

  4. Enter the equipment initial in the equipment initial box, and the equipment number in the equipment number box;

  5. Continue entering initials and numbers, up to ten cars at a time;

  6. Click on the Trace Cars button to get the results of your car tracing;

As an alternative, you can copy equipment initials and numbers from an Excel worksheet. To do so, equipment initials and numbers must be in a worksheet in separate, adjacent columns. Then copy the equipment initial and number range, and click on the Paste from Excel button on the input screen in your browser. When a window pops up, paste the range into the window and click on the "Add Excel to List" button. Of course, not more than ten equipment initials and numbers may be pasted into the input screen at any one time.

Results of your trace will include the load or empty status of the car, the current location of the car (or last location while on the Anacostia railroad), the date, time and type of last reportable event and the origin station. For security reasons, the destination station will no longer be displayed.

To get a recent history of car activity, including interchange deliveries and receipts, constructive placements and actual placements, click on the car initial or number.
