Salary: $98000-104000/year BASED ON EXPERIENCE
Position Summary: Responsible for supervising railroad freight train operations and other responsibilities as assigned. Implements established policies and procedures to support a safe, efficient, and effective operation. Supervises and appraises the activities of PHL train crews operating within PHL territory and surrounding areas. Ensures that all services are professionally delivered to our customers and surrounding communities. Oversees safe operating practices per FRA, CPUC, Coast Guard and company policy requirements.
Qualifications
Education: Associates or bachelor’s degree in Business or Transportation Management is preferred. High school diploma or GED is required.
Required Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a certified freight train conductor and/or locomotive engineer.
- Effective knowledge of safety and GCOR operating rules.
- Knowledge of PHL service territory, prior operations management experience is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Computer skills, including effective use of Microsoft Office products such as Excel.
- Must be able to effectively perform data collection and record keeping.
- Must be able to follow, implement, and enforce established policies and procedures and be able to observe, identify, implement, and enforce safety and security procedures.
- Must be able to multi-task in a high profile, fast paced and always changing work environment.
- Excellent communication skills [both verbal and written].
- Effective interpersonal/leadership and management abilities are required.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Implements transportation plan, providing suggestions for process and safety improvements.
- Ensures safe, effective and efficient transportation operations in and around the port complex.
- Ensures that all safety programs and measures are properly maintained and that all required training and reporting is accurately completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures that train crews operate safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Keeps managers appropriately informed of transportation operations activities and any significant problems.
- Ensures that all business relationships are established and maintained, protecting PHL’s professional reputation.
- Completes all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Work Environment
Work Environment: Works both inside and outside [10/90%]. Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and varying shifts. May have to walk distances on uneven surfaces such as rail ballast.
